Resting next to the porch of the 12th Century church of St Andrew is the grave of George Hodgson, the Dent Vampire. For those who haven't heard the tale, George Hodgson died in 1715 aged 94, years before his death rumours abound about his health and longevity attributing it to dealings with the Devil and Vampirism, he was intered in a corner of the churchyard, later several Dales people reported seeing him walking by moonlight, after their mysterious deaths his body was exhumed, a stake driven through his heart then laid to rest next to the church porch, you can still see the hole in the coffin lid. |

The Dancing Stones at the foot of Flinter Gill, so named because the weavers of dent would soak their webs of cloth in the gill, lay them on the stones then dance on them, this fluffed up the cloth to increase insulation, it was known as felting. |
