Erratics 430 million years old resting on 100 million year old Carboniferous Limestone, left high and dry by the retreating Crummack Dale Glacier over 12,000 years ago, what we see is 12,000 years of erosion leaving the much harder Gritstone at the original ground level.

Notice how only Green Lichen grows on the Gritstone and White Lichen on the Limestone.
