A short walk today, an afterthought, I had to work last night, when I got up at noon the weather looked promising, I grabbed the camera threw a waterproof jacket in the bag just in case and drove the nine miles to Beetham.
I parked in the Heron Corn Mill car park, honesty box £1 as long as you like. My route took me north into the park land of Dallam, after passing the Deer House a small cairn with direction indicator was reached, here I turned west to cross a lane before ascending through a field to the small hamlet of Haverbrack, on a rough lane between farm buildings and cottages I headed south. There's some excellent views to be had from this narrow lane, a few photos before the woods swallowed me up to deposit me several minuets later in Cockshot Lane. I'm now en route to the Fairy Steps, for this section of the walk I,ve been joined by a companion, a pesky cock pheasant squawking instructions always keeping just one step out of reach, he guided me through the mixed woodland of Beetham Fell avoiding the polished fissure of the Fairy Steps, we followed the path past the old cottage above Beetham to exit the woods at High Wood Edge, where he left me to join some of his mates. A short walk through Beetham village saw me end my day on the banks of the River Bela.
