Black Crag and Reston Scar or maybe Hugill Fell and Reston Scar depending on which book you read, I reckon guide book writers and web-site owners have got this one wrong, my uncle lived in Staveley most of his life and he always said Williamson's Monument marked the summit of Hugill Fell, so today I'll bow to his better judgment, it will be Black Crag and Reston Scar.
My day starts where the River Kent tumbles over the weir at Barley Bridge, I head north on the Kentmere Road until a kissing gate on the left allows access to the fell side, I ascend into a golden landscape, the winter sun adding it's own kind of sparkle. On good paths I soon reach the summit of Black Crag or Hugill Fell whatever takes your fancy, from here on a good path I skirt the marsh to reach the high point of the day (a small cairn but no name, it aught to have one the views are stunning). South from here to reach Reston Scar before the easy descent back to Staveley, after passing the reservoir a path on the left takes me through fields on an easy descent back to Barley Bridge.
